- In a previous article, fheitka@ibm.net (Frederick Heitkamp) says:
-
- >My problem is that there are some heavy hitters with very deep pockets
- >working on this internet computer and set top box things. We're talking
- >cable, phone, major consumer electronics companies. How is a little
- >company like VISCorp with old technology (Amiga) going to compete? Many
-
- Any company that can buy the rights for the Amiga must have some clout,
- not to mention a good vision of the future. Remember MicroSoft was once a
- 'little' company... and if we knew how.. then we would be rich too.
-
- >of the major players have prototypes and agreements already. In addition
- >many of the big players are trying to get in bed with Microsoft, who
- >wants to control the OS across both units, and probably will.
-
- This is a loser sheep mentality, new players might be the next big player
- and it's starting to look like MicroSloft is starting to look like a big
- bloated overstaffed committee run organization which is bankrupt for
- creative solutions (not meaning to run down Bill Gates operation, just
- calling them as I see'm)..
-
- >I want to know what intellectual property, that is Amiga, that anyone wants?
- >I don't see any large financial institution approving Amiga purchase
- >business plan based on what I know (which ain't a whole lot, as you can see
-
- Guess you must be headlong into a clone by now.. The O/S is a special
- part of the Amiga, small and effective for a set-top box, not to mention
- all the legacy soft. It's possible that the 'reported price' is
- contingent on agreements that we don't know and deals which are still to
- be made.. (for all we know MS or IBM could be playing this game). But who
- cares if it means that your Amiga is still a viable non orphan?
-
- >Don't get me wrong, I have two Amiga's and think thery're pretty capable,
- >but it's been three years since any major development. The Amiga has
- >slow graphics, CPU, and no (VM, MP, DSOM, OLE, CORBA, OPENDOC, etc., etc.)
- >compared to current PC technology.
-
- Last I heard was a review of an 060 Amiga running close to 40 Mflops,
- which is not to far off P5/166 turning 60 Mflops. Let's just say 'YOUR'
- Amiga's haven't been upgraded in 3 years! Better start hanging around the
- Amiga conferences again.. or you'll be left behind:)
